Charles Manson spearheaded a murderous campaign with his followers, the Manson Family cult, that made him one of the most infamous criminals in history.
The group’s killing spree included the notoriously brutal slayings of pregnant actor Sharon Tate and other Hollywood residents.

For these crimes, Manson received the death penalty in 1971, a sentence that was commuted to life in prison the following year. In total, he is thought to be responsible for around 35 murders. Manson died in prison of natural causes in 2017, just after his 83rd birthday.
